You killed my SANDWICH. I swear to God the movie should be called Birds Of Prey: And The Death Of Harley Quinn's Sandwich. I'm sorry if this wasn't that funny. Watch Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn 2020 Online for free shoutbox. "Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, could have, and should have, had a shorter title. To be honest with you, I feel like that's a major reason of why this movie have been underperforming. Well, that, and I'm sure the trailer, which echoed the schizophrenic tone of "Suicide Squad's" trailer, rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, esepcially since "Suicide Squad" was very mediocre to a lot of people. And that's a shame, because "Birds of Prey" is a million times better than "Suicide Squad" and the most entertaining DC film since I can't even remember when.
First things first: Harley Quinn was looking fuegisimo in this movie. I actually found it interesting that so many people in the movie wanted to kill her because I'll be honest, I wanted to do something else to her if you catch my drift (make love. But beyond that, Margot Robbie is the ultimate Harley Quinn; I can't imagine anyone else in the role. From mannerisms to speech patterns, she embodies the character perfectly and is a blast to watch on screen. And even though the title of this movie is "Birds of Prey, make no mistake: this is Harley's movie, through and through. In fact, the titular Birds of Prey don't even unite until the final 30 minutes of the film, and don't even officially become the Birds of Prey until literally the minute or two before the credits roll. So if you wanted more Harley and were worried those pesky other super villains would take away her stardom, don't be.
From beginning to end, this movie is flat-out fun. Filled with bright colors, loud music, and goofy, Saturday morning cartoon-esque comedy, unless your name is Dan, I think you'll find something to enjoy in this movie. For one, this movie feels a lot like Scott Pilgrim with it's loud, poppy music, and vibrant, neon colors. Hardly a minute goes by in this film without an explosion of color and near-deafening music blaring, and that's a good thing. Sufferers from ADD fear not, because this movie is better than taking a Ritalin. I mean seriously, there's always something bombastic going on, and the editing ensures everything moves forward at breakneck pace.
Now, you may be wondering, God damn, with this R-rating, how violent is this movie. Well, not very. You see, there are few CGI spatters of blood that are very blink and you'll miss it, and there is one mildly gruesome scene involving Victor Zsasz and someone else's face, but other than that, and besides the exorbitant use of the f-word, this movie could've easily been PG-13, and should have been. Listen, I like bloody violence as much as the next guy, and I expected to see some in this movie. There wasn't. But honestly, that didn't bother me because of how great the action was filmed. Long takes, wide shots, slow motion when appropriate, and great choreography all combined to make some of the best action set-pieces I've scene since the John Wick movies. Now, I will say, this action isn't as good as John Wick, only because our heroines never really get hurt. You see, when they're fighting their enemies, the enemies just kind of stand still and let themselves get beat up. It's mildly distracting for sure, but it doesn't detract from the fun and excitement of the action scenes; I just wanted to bring that up, because it is a criticism.
And when it comes to other criticisms, my biggest one is probably the fact that every man in this movie is a scum bag. I get it, this is a women empowerment movie, but literally every man in this movie is a horrible awful person, and it's kind of annoying, especially since the main villain, Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor, seems to hate women for really no reason at all. But while this didn't bother me too much, I can see it bothering a lot of other people. And since I mentioned Ewan McGregor, I might as well talk about him now. This dude was amazing in this movie. He was so much fun to watch on screen and chewed up the scenery every time he was. This is definitely my favorite villain that DC has ever had on screen before, and I guarantee you that you're going to love watching Ewan in action. You've never seem him like this before, folks! But, I would feel wrong without mentioning only one complain about Black Mask: He's basically Joker 2.0. And this seems to be a problem that DC has with their villains. I mean, between Lex Luthor in BvS and Black Mask in this movie, DC really needs to think up some new ideas before audiences get fatigued from the crazy, goofy, insane villain cliche. But, regardless, I loved Black Mask and appreciated that "Birds of Prey" didn't resort to having an end of the world sub plot, and kept the villain and his plans very small scale.
"Birds of Prey" is the best time I've had in a theatre in 2020, and I'm extremely looking forward to watching it again. Definitely give this movie a chance because it deserves your support, and trust me, you'll have fun.
